The Catalan giant has disclosed that their new signing Thomas Vermaelen will be out of action for indefinite time period after he was found carrying a thigh problem.
The 27 years old Belgium international only signed for the Catalan giants from Arsenal only a few days ago for a reported fee of €19 million as a culmination of what was a longest transfer saga this summer. The former Ajax man penned a deal with his new employee that runs until the summer of 2019 after he was reported to have successfully passed the medical.
“The first-team player Thomas Vermaelen has a thigh injury in his right leg that he sustained in June during the World Cup,” a statement on the club’s official website reads.
“The player will undergo physiotherapy. His return to regular training action depends on the evolution of the injury.”
Vermaelen went on to make just two appearances at World Cup, in Brazil in a campaign up to quarterfinal for the Belgium national team. And, he is yet to make a debut for his new club.
Barcelona have been quite busy this summer, during which they have secured the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Claudio Bravo, Jeremy Mathieu, Alen Halilovic, Ivan Rakitic Luis Suarez, and most recently Thomas Vermaelen.
