Sport Aguila and Fuerza Minera started with extreme weather conditions in their Copa Peru match, but the lighting incident forced referee to stop the match.
Prior to the this lighting incident,weather conditions allowed the game to start and did not risk the integrity of anyone involved in the match. Contreras, his team-mate and the linesman were rushed to the nearest hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.  |

During the Copa Peru match between Sport Aguila and Fuerza Minera, Joao Cotreras was struck by lightning,seconds before the second half of the game started. Along with Contreras, his team-mate Julio Rios Mozambique and the linesman Abraham Loayza suffered some serious injuries due to lighting.
The hospital's report on the 21-year old Joao Contreras stated the player was stabilized, although he suffered second degree burns in 18% of his body. His team-mate suffered concussions, and the linesman will be kept under medical treatment until further notice.
