Manchester United transfer news: Marcos Rojo linked to Old Trafford
Manchester United have entered the race to sign recent World Cup surprise and Argentina international Marcos Rojo as Van Gaal wants to add another left sided defender in his squad.
The 25 years old Sporting Lisbon defender has been a transfer target for Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Southampton, with the clubs yet to meet the valuation of the Portuguese club. The left back has a release clause of about €38 million and the club does not seem to accept anything less.
Rojo, who can feature at the wing back position of at the left of the three man defense in Van Gaal’s preferred 3-5-2 formation, has impressed in past few years and enjoyed a successful campaign which saw Argentina reach final.
Rojo was reported earlier following United’s official account, plus those of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Adnan Januzaj in Instagram, which only fuels the United’s interest on the player.
Manchester United have already recruited midfielder Ander Hererra and left back Luke Shaw in what has been a busy transfer window for the Old Trafford side. The Red Devils are also heavily linked with players such as Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid, Arturo Vidal from Juventus, Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund and others, as new manager Van Gaal looks to rebuild the last season’s sorry squad.
