Sporting Lisbon’s defender Marcos Rojo has confirmed his transfer to Manchester United labeling his move as a ‘dream’.
Highly sought after defender Macos Rojo has confirmed his move to Manchester United.
United are believed to have offered a transfer fee in the range of £16 million which includes winger Nani moving to the opposite side on a season-long loan. And, the recent reports suggested, the Portuguese outfit have accepted the offer.
“It feels like a dream, to be a Manchester United player,” the defender was quoted telling ARG Radio Continental. “Leaving Sporting wasn’t easy.”
Marcos Rojo is a versatile defender, able to play as a central defender or a wing back, and is expected to shore up the calamitous defense that saw Manchester United loose the opening game of Premier League to Swansea City.
The 24 years old Argentina international had been attracting the interests from different teams including Premier League side Liverpool and Southampton owing to his impressive performance at World Cup that saw Argentina reach the final of the competition. He was named in the Fifa World Cup All-Star side for his performances in Brazil this summer and is expected to settle well in new 3-5-2 system adopted by Van Gaal.
Rojo is set to be United’s third signing this summer after midfielder Ander Hererra and defender Luke Shaw. Manchester United are also reported to be closing in on another Argentine Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.
