Wayne Rooney believes United can challenge for title |
Wayne Rooney believes that Manchester United can turn six successive English Premier League victories into an title challenge, report the Daily Star, as the weekend’s 3-0 victory over arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford continue Red Devil’s recent form of turning average performances into winning performances.
Manchester United’s win over Liverpool kept them within eight points of the league leaders after this weekend’s fixtures, whilst they are five points behind city rivals Manchester City, but with a couple of easy fixtures coming up for United there is every chance that they can keep up the heat on the top two.
This is a view shared by Wayne Rooney, who has been in great form recently and was brilliant in midfield against rival Liverpool, who believes that if they can keep up this tempo then Chelsea and City will begin to look over their shoulders:
“If we can keep winning games & picking up points from other teams, then hopefully the other teams will drop points and we can be right in there going into the second half of the season.”
“I think we have to believe we can win the title this season.”
United's Manager Louis van Gaal, however, was still critical of facets of the Manchester United's performance against Liverpool, with the win certainly oweing a lot to the brilliant performance of goalkeeper David de Gea, as the United allowed a number of clear chances to Liverpool.
