Alvaro Morata scored his 1st goal of 2018 in the fa Cup quarter-final win over Leicester City on Monday (AEDT), ending a run of thirteen games in all competitions without scoring.

The 25-year-old's dip in form, combined with a back injury, saw Antonio Conte experiment with Eden Hazard as a false 9 and use January arrival Olivier Giroud in place of Chelsea's record signing.

Alonso admits it's been a tricky time for his compatriot, however, he's assured the former Real Madrid man, who was unnoticed by Julen Lopetegui for this month's friendly matches, can relish a powerful finish to the season.

"Alvaro wasn't happy," Alonso told a conference. "He's suffered a handful of difficult months due to a back problem. he is at one hundred percent currently, he got here to scoring the other day...

"I hope he helps us at the end of the season. he is very vital and that I hope he is at the World Cup."

Alonso might earn his 1st senior Spain cap in Saturday's (AEDT) friendly with Germany, having earned a spot in Lopetegui's squad due to his form for Chelsea.

The 27-year-old insists he was never unduly distracted by his international prospects, despite his long wait to join the senior squad, however, he currently desires to create the foremost of his chance.

"I tried to offer it the least importance," he said. "My job was to try and do well at Chelsea and to be centred on the team's goals.

"It came as a surprise and a prize for the last few years. Now, I am quickly getting centred, and it's very exciting.

"It's quite a test. I take it as a chance. The boss is aware of me well from my time with the youth team. It's a chance to point out, to adapt quickly to the team's play and to earn a call-up more times."
